The Breakwater
Type: Pier
Built to shelter the harbour from the Atlantic, the Breakwater is a fantastic location from which to watch the sunset, go fishing or swim. Interestingly, the metal support for the Barrel on Barrel Rock at the end of the Breakwater, was once the propeller shaft of the SS Belem. The SS Belem was wrecked at Northcott Mouth on the night of the 20th November 1917 and 33 men were rescued. The wreck can still be seen at low tide at the north end of Northcott Beach.
