Bude Tourism Ambassador

Who we are:  Bude Tourist Information Centre (TIC) is a busy, award winning Centre.  The TIC and Summerleaze Beach Office is operated by Bude Area Tourist Board (BATB), who are the official organisation responsible for encouraging visitors to Bude. BATB works closely with the public and private sectors to deliver a programme of targeted marketing initiatives aimed at increasing visitor numbers, growing visitor spend and creating jobs. We receive no public funding. All of our income is derived from booking commission, shop sales and membership fees.

With our offices, VisitBude website, 40,000 guide publications, social media, targeted marketing and PR campaigns, we are able to reach a large audience, spreading the news about Bude and what it has to offer and promoting the Bude area as the No 1 place to visit.

Task: Act as a VisitBude Ambassador and meet and greet members of the public at key locations around the town to provide visitors with immediate help and guidance

What is it about? Creating a welcoming first impression and an immediate point of contact for visitors to make the most of their visit.

Why do we need you?  At peak times, Bude is very busy.  We need a group of people to act as VisitBude Ambassadors (for which training, help and advice would be given).  Thousands of people visit Bude each year, and their first impression is often tainted by a high volume of traffic at bottleneck locations, poor road signage, difficultly finding a parking space and general uncertainty of key locations.

What would you do?  Greet visitors at key locations, offer immediate advice and ascertain the purpose of their visit and direct to the appropriate location or information source.  Conversation can encourage them to make the most of their visit to Bude, as you can give information about aspects of the town they do not know.

Key locations:  Crescent Car Park/Bude TIC, Summerleaze Car Park, and Strand bus stop/entrance to Summerleaze Car Park.

Good for someone who is: Well presented, outgoing personality, friendly, flexible, enthusiastic about Bude and the surrounding area, and has a good knowledge of the town and region.  It is essential that you can offer advice without favouring a particular business or location.  We would welcome applications from all ages but feel it would particularly suit more mature Bude enthusiasts.

You will be working with a small team of VisitBude Ambassadors, and it is hoped that one person would take on the role of organising the team.

Good for someone who wants to: Work with the public in a busy environment and act as an Ambassador for Bude.

What you get from us:  A huge amount of gratitude and we will pay your expenses (parking etc), help, support and training to carry out the role and the opportunity to share your love of Bude and local knowledge with others.

Commitment:  To be available a minimum of one half-day session per week during school summer holidays.  Together we will agree a trial period and meet at the end of that time to see if we are both happy with the role.
