Widemouth Bay is less well known than the neighbouring resort town and bustling beaches of Bude but at just three miles from Bude Town Centre it is a great alternative base for your summer holiday.
Miles of Golden Sand
The main attraction at Widemouth is the long uninterrupted sands of the bay which is so long it is served by a car park at each end! With approximately 1.5 miles of beach to choose from, there is plenty of room for everyone; and it is backed by dunes which provide shelter from the breeze.
Widemouth Bay is great for surfing and particularly for learners, so you will find many local surf schools basing their lessons here. The beach also has lifeguards during the summer months so whatever your standard you will be able to enjoy the thrill of catching a wave in a safe and secure environment.
The receding tide offers up an abundance of rockpools so you can discover the variety of marine wildlife and try out crabbing with the little ones; or marvel at the geological formations including the well-known landmark of Black Rock
At the End of the Day
Widemouth Bay enjoys the sun nearly all day and provides some awesome sunsets which can be enjoyed with a refreshing drink and a bite of something local at one of the cafes or laid-back bars that hug the dunes. Or you can buy some fresh fish from the small, family run fishmongers at the Beach House Shop and enjoy some of Cornwall’s finest local produce.
Out and About Nearby
A holiday in Widemouth gives you easy access to many great Cornish sites including some that are right on the doorstep such as Poundstock with its violent and dramatic history, 14th Century church and Tudor Guildhouse, the only one of its type in the county. Widemouth itself has an interesting church, diminutive in size but large in character, the tiny church was built in 1929 and is definitely worth seeking out.
