Docton Mill Gardens and Tea Rooms

Docton Mill Gardens and Tea-Rooms is a family run business and is owned by Lana and John Borrett who have been at Docton for 15years, supported by their children and expanding family. Since our arrival at Docton in March 2000 we have greatly expanded the gardens to increase the variety of planting and enjoyment for visitors. The gardens surround the watercourses which form a spine through the gardens being on a site of 9 acres. What makes it even more special is our location being 1500M from the wild Atlantic coast in the truly magical Spekes Valley, which offers a unique microclimate for plants.

The opening of the garden coincides with the display of narcissi, some 20,000, which are found throughout the borders. Variety in planting through the differing areas, bog-garden, woodland garden, waterfall garden, summer garden, herbaceous borders and stream garden give interest right through the gardening season.

We encourage people to walk the 1.5km to the coast to view the fantastic waterfall at Spekes Mill Mouth and watch it cascading into the Atlantic Ocean. Please bring wellies for the walk.

Our award winning tea room which surrounds the garden terrace and Mill House is open daily. Enjoy the glorious gardens on warm days while indulging from our menu. The wood burning stove will be glowing in our granary room to give a warm welcome at the beginning and end of the season.

Our food is freshly prepared in the granary kitchen. Our menu includes home made soups, pasties, salads and filled rolls. Also homemade cakes, desserts and of course don’t forget our award winning cream teas.

Our beef and turkey is locally reared in Devon. Devon crab, Scottish smoked salmon, large prawns and smoked mackerel are of the best quality and freshness, deliciously served with salad and ciabatta rolls. Try the best mature cheddar cheese served with our homemade chutney. We grow organic salad leaves to lavishly garnish, freshness and locally sourced best quality ingredients are our priority.

Enjoy our range of loose leaved teas, coffee, hot chocolate and a good selection of cold drinks and sparkling presse.

I think you will agree our tearoom offers beautiful surroundings in which to enjoy high quality lunches and afternoon teas and a warm friendly service.
