Based in the scenic moorland and woodland location of North Cornwall, very close to Bude. Countryside Hawking is run by falconer Julian Clement who has over 25 years of falconry experience. He is well known around the West Country for his skills and talents with birds of prey. Depending on the time of year, you may see him and his birds in action at some of the bigger country shows in the local area.
He has a wide variety of hawks, owls and falcons from across the world all with very different characters and attributes. Some have been hand-reared by Julian himself and have been working with him for many years.
Julian is offering you the chance to meet some of these amazing birds in a “one to one” encounter or as a family. If you are photography group, art group or a group of friends get in contact with Julian and he is happy to arrange sessions for larger groups too. Not only will you get to see these magnificent birds up close you will get an insight about their life in the wild as a bird of prey, and about the ancient skill of training captive birds. This really is a very unique opportunity and one that you will remember for years to come.
There are some fascinating characters in Julian’s team who you could be lucky enough to meet.
“Jasper” the Bengali Owl was hand-reared from 10 days old and is now 13. He is very much a character and will soon let you know if he likes you or not.
“Sorren” is a beautiful barn owl, only a youngest and very chatting. His distinctive screech can be heard from afar, he’s noisy but very charming with it and will soon have you under his spell.
“Billie” a Lanner Falcon is another youngest. Joining Julian at 12 weeks old, the breeder said Billie was a boy, but it turned out she was a girl. She is still very young and learning the ropes, if you get to see her in action, she is beautiful in flight.
“Owlbert”an African Spotted Eagle Owl was also hand-reared from a very young age and the only one to survive a difficult start in life. He has blossomed into a real character who you are likely to meet on a “one to one” close encounter session.
Further details about Julian and all his birds can be found on his website.
