War Horse Valley Countryside Park
War Horse Valley Countryside Park is a 40 minute journey from Bude, just over 5 minutes, east of Hatherleigh
Michael Morpurgo is a neighbour and based his book on this farm and surrounding area. The story is about a horse taken from Parsonage Farm and sent to the battles in the First World War, which was turned into an award winning production by the National Theatre before becoming a blockbuster film directed by Steven Spielburg. Our farm gave Michael Morpurgo the setting for his book, as the home where Joey, its horse hero, was raised. He knew the farm well with his connection going back to the mid 1970s when he moved to the area with his wife Clare and set up Farms for City Children.
