Written Directions:

Walk beyond the tearoom’s courtyard entrance and follow the footpath marked Tidna Valley over fields and into a farm track.

Cross directly over the lane, following the path marked ‘Tidna Valley’ Keep along the field edges down into the valley.

At the stream turn right, then, at a post marked ‘Tonacombe’ cross the stream and climb the slope, passing through gates into the fields.

Keep ahead into a tree-lined path. Pass in front of the gated entrance to Tonacombe and keep ahead into fields again.

Shortly, aim for the right of the farm building in the far hedge to find a stile – note the dressed stone in it.

Turn left in the lane, then immediately right, along the drive leading into Stanbury Manor.

On reaching the yard, turn left between rose hedges. Cross into the field and bear right to another stile.

In the next field, go through the gate in the corner bordering the lane (opposite is Eastaway Manor). Do not go into the lane – but turn right and keep along the field hedge, then follow the path down into the wooded valley.

Cross the stream, bear left and head for the sea down a marshy track. Above Stanbury Mouth the way joins the Coast Path. Take the right fork and climb up to the cliff top.

Continue on the Coast Path. On the far side of the Tidna Valley (Shute), you will pass a way-mark to Crosstown. Keep ahead, through the kissing gate.

Very shortly, on the left, you will see a slate slab and steps leading down to Hawker’s Hut.

In the next field, turn right and aim for the church tower.

Cross into the churchyard. After your church visit, the lych-gate exit leads back to the car park by the Rectory Tearooms.
