Beach Hut Wedding FAQ’s

Why get married in Cornwall's most unique wedding venue?

A beach hut wedding in Bude is widely regarded as one of the most unique wedding venues in Cornwall – and for good reason. It offers something that traditional venues simply can’t replicate: intimacy, character, and an unbeatable coastal setting.

  • Unlike most seaside venues that overlook the coast, a beach hut wedding takes place directly on the beach. With the sound of the waves, sea air, and uninterrupted views, it feels immersive, natural, and completely uncontrived.
  • Beach hut weddings are intentionally small. This creates a relaxed, personal atmosphere where couples can genuinely connect with their guests—no rigid schedules, no large crowds, just meaningful moments in a beautiful setting.
  • The beach hut is a true symbol of Cornwall’s coastal charm. It delivers all the character and sense of place people travel for, without the formality of hotels, barns, or estates. Shoes off, feet in the sand, ties optional.
  • A beach hut wedding blends simplicity with significance. It feels joyful and informal, yet still deeply meaningful—perfect for couples who want their wedding to feel like them, not a performance.
  • Few venues can say they welcome dogs, and even fewer can say they’ve hosted alpacas. This flexibility makes the experience memorable, personal, and genuinely one of a kind.
  • For many guests, attending a wedding in a beach hut is something they’ve never experienced before. It’s unexpected, memorable, and talked about long after the day is over.

With the sea, sky, and shoreline as your backdrop, we don’t rely on heavy styling. The beauty is already there – natural, timeless, and always changing with the light and tide.

Can we bring our own food and drink?

Yes, you’re very welcome to bring your own food and drinks to enjoy during your time at the Beach Hut.

Many couples choose a relaxed, picnic-style celebration, sharing their favourite food and drinks with guests while making the most of the beach setting, some even have a BBQ, or have fish and chips or pasties delivered!

  • Plastic glasses only are permitted (no glass)
  • Food and drink should be enjoyed responsibly
  • Disposable BBQs are not permitted

These guidelines help keep the space safe and enjoyable while preserving the relaxed coastal atmosphere.

How do deposits and payments work?

Can we have confetti?

Yes, confetti is welcome, but it must be organic.

To help protect the beach and surrounding environment, we kindly ask that any confetti used is fully biodegradable and natural (such as dried petals or leaves). Plastic, metallic, or synthetic confetti is not permitted.

How many guests can I bring to my Beach Hut wedding?

We intentionally host small guest numbers at our beach hut to protect the intimate, relaxed, and personal atmosphere that makes these celebrations so special. Fewer guests allow couples to spend genuine, unhurried time with the people who matter most, creating meaningful memories in a peaceful coastal setting.

All wedding guests are required to be seated during the ceremony. This ensures clear sightlines for everyone and allows the couple to fully enjoy uninterrupted views of the beach and sea – an essential part of the setting and atmosphere. Standing guests could obstruct these views and detract from the calm, open feel of the ceremony.

Additional guests, even if stood outside are not permitted. Attendance is limited to the agreed number of seated guests only.

Guest limits by package:

  • Elopement Package – The couple plus upto 4 guests
  • 3-Hour Package – The couple plus up to 10 guests
  • Full-Day Package – The couple plus up to 10 guests for the ceremony, with an additional 10 guests welcome outside for the remainder of the day

Elopement weddings - who will be our witnesses?

If you’re planning an elopement and aren’t inviting any guests, we’re happy to act as your legal witnesses.

This means you can enjoy a completely private, stress-free ceremony while still meeting all the legal requirements. Just the two of you, the Registrar, and us to act as legal witness your “I do.”

Where should guests wait before the ceremony?

You’ll need to designate a guest to help coordinate arrivals on the day to help everything run smoothly and keep the focus on the ceremony itself.

Guests should be asked to arrive just 5–10 minutes before the ceremony. It’s important that guests do not gather at the Beach Hut beforehand, as you’ll be inside completing the legal formalities with the Registrar.

For guests who wish to arrive early, there are hotel bars, restaurants and a beach café within eyeline of the Wedding Hut, which are ideal for pre-ceremony drink.

Where is the Beach Hut?

If you’re not familiar with Summerleaze Beach, you can view the location on Google Maps.

Postcode: EX23 8HN
Please note: this postcode also covers Summerleaze Crescent, which is a dead-end road. For the closest access, follow directions to Summerleaze Beach Car Park.

The Wedding Hut is located directly on Summerleaze Beach.

  • Park at Summerleaze Beach Car Park (the nearest parking).
  • Walk towards the RNLI Station, public toilets, and beach shop.
  • With your back to the car park and these buildings on your left, follow the sandy path down onto the beach.
  • As the beach opens up, look to your left for a large patio area and Lifeguard Hut.
  • Hut No. 2, the one furthest from the path, is The Wedding Hut.  Hut No. 1 is used for your pre-wedding interview with the Registrar.

Where's the best place to park?

During school holidays and sunny bank holiday weekends, traffic heading into Bude can be slow. If you’re driving, please allow extra time for your journey.

At any time of year, make sure you also factor in time to find a parking space and pay at the machine, as queues can form—especially at peak times. We recommend having both card and coins available, just in case.

Most Cornwall Council car parks accept payment via the JustPark app, or you can pay over the phone using the number shown on nearby signage. Please note that other car parks may use different apps and may not offer phone payment.

Public toilets are available at Summerleaze Beach and Crooklets Beach.

1–2 Minutes Walk

Summerleaze Beach Car Park – EX23 8NH
(Cornwall Council, pay and display)

  • This is the closest car park to The Wedding Hut and is located right next to the beach. It does fill up quickly during busy periods, so we strongly recommend arriving early.

5 Minutes Walk

  • Adventure Bude Car Park – Belle Vue, EX23 8JP
    (pay and display)

Exit via the gate at the back of the car park and follow the path straight ahead. This joins the exit road from Summerleaze Beach car park. Turn left and head down the hill. Once inside Summerleaze Beach car park, look to your right for the RNLI Station, public toilets, and beach shop. From here, take the sandy path next to the beach shop down onto the beach—The Wedding Hut is on the left.

5–10 Minutes Walk

  • Neetside Parking & Parkhouse Centre – EX23 8LD
    (pay and display)

Park in the bays behind the Parkhouse Centre or along Neetside. Walk across Nanny Moore’s Bridge (painted blue), turn left, and continue through Summerleaze Beach car park. Head towards the RNLI Station, public toilets, and beach shop, then take the sandy path next to the shop down onto the beach. The Wedding Hut is on your left.

10–15 Minutes Walk

  • Crooklets Car Park – EX23 8NE
    (Cornwall Council, pay and display)

Walk towards the sea, passing Crooklets Beach Café, and turn left onto the promenade. You can either take the steps in front of the beach huts or the flat path behind them. Continue past Bude Sea Pool on your right, then walk behind Life’s a Beach Café. Turn left down the incline and follow the slip road towards Summerleaze Beach car park. Do not enter the car park—turn right in front of the beach shop and take the sandy path down to the beach. The Wedding Hut is on your left.

Is the Beach Hut accessible?

The Wedding Beach Hut is wheelchair accessible, but the access path from the car park to the beach can be sandy.  The public toilets offer a Changing Places facility.

Can I view the Wedding Hut before booking?

Yes, you’re welcome to view the hut before booking. But, it will be empty, as we transform the space specifically for each wedding. This allows every couple to have a unique setup tailored to their celebration.

For inspiration, please view our downloadable wedding picture portfolios (Wedding Photography PDF Downloads above), showcasing some of our previous weddings where you can see how the hut is styled for different weddings.

How is the Wedding Hut decorated?

If you’re having an Elopement or 3-Hour Wedding Package, the hut will be decorated for you. You can choose from the following styles:

  • Garlands
  • Hessian bunting
  • Seaside bunting

You can download the decoration PDF brochure here for full details and examples.

If you’re having a Full-Day Wedding Package, you’re welcome to decorate the hut yourselves. We recommend booking an afternoon ceremony to allow plenty of time to decorate at a relaxed pace. You may use small nails to secure decorations, but all nails and decorations must be removed at the end of the day.

How do we book a Beach Hut Wedding?

If you’re planning a legal wedding ceremony at the beach hut, you’ll need to book a Registrar from Cornwall Council to attend and conduct the service.

The Registrar’s fee for attending a licensed venue in Cornwall to perform a “distinctive ceremony” is approximately £790, with a £75 deposit payable at the time of booking.

How do we secure our wedding date?

To secure your date, please follow the steps below in order:

  1. Call us first to check availability of the beach hut for your preferred date and time 01288 354240 (open daily, 10am–4pm)
  2. Contact the Cornwall Council Registration Team to check that a Registrar is available – information here
  3. Call us again to confirm the beach hut is still available (availability can change quickly)
  4. Book the Registrar directly with Cornwall Council
  5. Call us to book the beach hut and pay the £500 deposit to secure your date

Once everything above is complete, please complete this booking form to finalise your reservation.

Giving Notice of Marriage

If you live outside the county of Cornwall, you can give your Notice of Marriage at your local Registration Office. The information collected at your Notice appointment is stored on the central General Register Office database. This information appears on your marriage schedule, which your Cornwall Registrar will bring with them on the day. This means you can complete everything from home, and it will all be in place when you arrive in Cornwall for your wedding ceremony at the beach hut.

What time of day can we get married at the Beach Hut?

Wedding ceremonies at the Beach Hut can take place at various times throughout the day, subject to availability and Registrar scheduling.

It’s worth checking the tide times when choosing your ceremony time. You may prefer the beach to be dry and open, or you might love the idea of the tide being in, with the water right up to the edge of the hut. Both create very different (and equally beautiful) atmospheres.

If you’re booking a Full-Day Wedding Package, we recommend midday ceremony, which allows plenty of time beforehand for decorating and a relaxed start to the day.

In some cases, we may be able to offer an evening ceremony, but this will need to be discussed with us in advance and is subject to our staff availability and Registrar approval. This would incur additional fees.

We’re always happy to help you plan the timing that works best for you and your vision.

Can we have a non-legal ceremony with a Celebrant?

Yes, you’re very welcome to bring your own celebrant if you’re having a non-legal (symbolic) ceremony at the Beach Hut.

This gives you complete freedom to personalise your ceremony, whether that’s something relaxed and informal or deeply meaningful and unique to you as a couple.

What happens if it rains?

Don’t worry, your wedding will still go ahead if it rains.

The Beach Hut provides shelter, allowing your ceremony and celebrations to continue in a relaxed and intimate setting, whatever the weather. Many couples find that a bit of rain adds to the atmosphere, creating a cosy, memorable experience with the sound of the sea in the background.

We always recommend embracing the coastal weather and planning with flexibility in mind.

However, in the event of a severe storm, it may be necessary to cancel or postpone the ceremony for safety reasons. Any decision around cancellation due to extreme weather would be discussed and agreed with the Cornwall Council Registrars, who have the final say on whether a legal ceremony can safely take place. We’ll always keep in close contact and guide you through the process, ensuring everyone’s safety while exploring the best possible outcome for your day.

Can we bring a dog?

Yes! Clean, dry dogs are very welcome inside the Wedding Beach Hut.

Summerleaze Beach is a dog-friendly beach, however dogs must be kept on a lead between 10am and 6pm from 21st May to 30th September.

And yes, we’ve even hosted three alpacas before, so your four-legged guests will be in good company!

You’ll need to ensure that one of your guests has agreed in advance to look after your dog during the ceremony, so you can relax and fully concentrate on saying “I do.” Having a designated dog-sitter helps keep pets calm and comfortable, while allowing your ceremony to flow smoothly and stress-free for everyone involved.
