The family opened its doors to the public in the 1970’s. Docton Mill Gardens and Tea Rooms
Welcome to Docton Mill Tea Rooms & Gardens, a hidden gem in the heart of Hartland, North Devon.
Discover the captivating story of Docton Mill Wild Flower Gardens, nestled in a stunning valley just 1000m from the coast. Originating in the 1930s, the garden faced a period of neglect in the 1970s. The resurgence in 1980 brought about the renovation of the Mill, extensive planting, and the creation of a new Bog Garden and borders, accompanied by the planting of numerous trees. The new millennium ushered in further developments, including the Magnolia Garden, expansive Herbaceous borders, Woodland Garden, and a Greenhouse area for extensive plant propagation.
Our Wild Flower Gardens follow a theme of natural simplicity. In spring, witness displays of narcissi, primulas, camellias, rhododendrons, and azaleas, all framed by the enchanting presence of bluebells. Summer brings a profusion of roses, including a rose bank of Felicia and Pax, alongside the Herbaceous border. Explore a field boasting 25 varieties of magnolia, ensuring a garden that captivates throughout the seasons.

Cornwall at War Museum
This is not your usual type of museum and it certainly isn’t a large grey building with all the exhibits neatly arranged on shelf after shelf in glass cabinets – ask any of our visitors!
There is a do-it-yourself NAAFI on-site for hot and cold drinks, crisps etc with comfortable seating and WW2 newspapers to read.
Well-behaved dogs (on a lead) are welcome.

Craft Your Coasteering Experience
Tailored to suit the needs and abilities of each group, our coasteering sessions provide all necessary safety equipment. Just bring along old trainers that you don’t mind getting wet. Participants must be over 10 years old, capable of swimming 50 meters unaided, and those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Begin your session by meeting your coasteering guide near Bude, Cornwall. Once you’re ready, don a wetsuit, buoyancy aid, and helmet, and don’t forget those water-friendly shoes! Pay close attention to the coasteering safety briefing from the lead guide, who will provide insights into what to expect from your coasteering adventure. Set in serene countryside, yet conveniently close to the sea, Sue Read’s studio resides within a converted barn on the picturesque Wooda Holiday Farm, where she spent her childhood days.
Now transformed into an award-winning destination, Wooda Farm Holiday Park provides a stunning backdrop for Sue’s work. Located just outside of Bude, with ample parking and easy access.
For those seeking an immersive experience, visiting the studio in person offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into her creative process and the inspiration behind each painting, while also providing a sense of connection to the surrounding landscape.
Sue’s studio showcases a collection of her latest artwork alongside prints and cards and a curated selection of ready-framed paper prints and large limited edition framed canvas prints.

Rose Cottage
Rose Cottage is a spacious stone barn conversion with four bedrooms, comfortably sleeping 8 plus cots. On the ground floor, you’ll find a generous open-plan living area featuring a fully equipped kitchen, a large dining area with seating for ten, and a cozy lounge centred around a stone fireplace with a wood-burner.
The ground floor also includes a large bedroom with a king-size double bed and a shower room. Upstairs, the first-floor sitting room offers spectacular views over the valley and woodlands, along with three additional bedrooms and a family bathroom.
The expansive upstairs bedroom boasts a stunning wrought iron king-size four-poster bed. Two twin rooms are accessible from the main hallway.

No matter your age, you’ll love the heated indoor pool at Woodlands. Whether you’re swimming laps or playing with the kids, the fun is limitless. The pool is maintained at a warm 30 degrees, ensuring a comfortable swim year-round.
The Games Room is a favourite among our guests, offering a great opportunity for all ages to relax and enjoy a wide range of activities. We have soft play, table tennis, foosball, giant Connect Four, darts, and pool.
For outdoor play, we provide a playing field with a stunning view, swings, a climbing frame, and a slide. The field also has two football goals, perfect for an impromptu kick-around with the kids.
The woodlands are simply magical, especially in April and May when the ground is carpeted with bluebells. Dogs are welcome to roam, but don’t forget your wellies, as it can get a bit muddy by the stream in winter.
The animals make the farm a special place for everyone. Twice a week, on Sundays and Wednesdays, kids (and big kids) can join Ruth for a feed-the-animals experience, getting up close with pigs, sheep, alpacas, horses, rabbits, goats, chickens, and the cat.

Just a 5-minute walk from the South West Coast Path and with easy access to the Bude Canal towpath into Bude, this beautifully refurbished two-bedroom cottage (sleeps 4) offers scenic clifftop and countryside walks right on your doorstep. Popular surf beaches such as Widemouth Bay and Summerleaze Beach are only minutes away by car.
Both bedrooms can be arranged as doubles or twins, offering flexibility for families or friends traveling together. A travel cot is available on request. The cottage features Wi-Fi, TV, Bose sound system, log burner, and additional heating for year-round comfort, along with a fully equipped kitchen featuring premium appliances.
Guests have full use of the cottage and its charming garden. Surfboards and bodyboards are available to borrow upon request, perfect for making the most of the seaside location.

This includes a cozy double bedroom, a well-equipped kitchen, a convenient wet room, and an open-beamed living room upstairs—perfect for relaxing and unwinding after a day of exploration.
Well-behaved dogs are warmly welcomed, but kindly note that they should not be left alone in the accommodation. Ideal for couples or couples with a baby (travel cot not included),

Woodlands Yurts
Woodlands Manor Farm offers two luxurious glamping yurt options for guests: Budhyn (Cornish for “meadow”) and Fenton (Cornish for “spring”).
The yurts have a diameter of 5.8 metres and a central height of 3 metres. Each yurt is equipped with a super king-size (6ft) double bed and two single beds, as well as a high-end Nordpeis Orion stove at the centre. The beds are made up with crisp white linen, and each guest is provided with two pillows, a hand towel, and a fluffy bath sheet. Complimentary broadband Wi-Fi is available, and each yurt features a large picnic table just outside the door.
Each yurt has its own kitchen area, which includes a fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, and a two-ring induction hob. There is also a folding table and chairs, allowing guests to dine indoors if it’s raining. The kitchen area is equipped with two USB charging points for laptops, tablets, and phones. Each yurt is provided with a Weber BBQ and a covered outdoor area, so the BBQ can be used even in the rain.
In addition to the kitchen facilities, each yurt has its own washing-up area, complete with frying pans, saucepans, cooking utensils, plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, and cutlery—essentially, everything you need to prepare and enjoy your meals.
Each yurt also has its own shower room with a WC and hand basin. The shower room is kept warm by a large heated towel rail.
Guests staying in our yurts have access to all the facilities offered by Woodlands Manor Farm, including the large heated indoor swimming pool, the games room with soft play area, the outdoor playground, the playing field with 5-a-side football goals, the woodland walk, and the opportunity to help feed the farm animals.
Well-behaved dogs are very welcome; please bring their bedding and bowls.

Sandpiper Cottage
One of six delightful cottages set around the sunny Stable Courtyard, Sandpiper is approached through the original stable archway and combines character with modern comfort.
Originally part of the old stables, the cottage has been imaginatively converted and enjoys the best of both worlds: a stable door opening onto the shared courtyard at the front, and French doors leading to a private enclosed garden at the rear. In this garden you’ll find a Swedish hot tub for year-round relaxation, plus outdoor seating, a dining table, and a gas BBQ – perfect for family meals or evenings under the stars. The secure garden makes it especially suitable for guests with dogs or small children.
Inside, everything is arranged on one level. The cottage features a bright, open-plan lounge, dining, and kitchen area, along with a fully tiled bathroom with bath and shower over.
Sandpiper offers three bedrooms, comfortably sleeping up to four adults and two children:

The Preston Gate Inn
The Preston Gate Inn, is a charming pub being a former cottage dating back to the early 1980s. The establishment may be relatively young but the building itself boasts a rich history that adds to its unique character. You’ll find it in the ancient Cornish settlement of Poughill on the edge of Bude.
Originally known as “Pyston Yate” or “Priests Gate,” the origins of the pub’s name is thought to be connected to the nearby old Vicarage, which dates back to 1679. This historical link adds a touch of intrigue and invites you to step back in time as you enjoy the cozy ambiance.
