Goose barnacles. These peculiar creatures are often washed up onto our shores here in Bude during the winter, or during stormy conditions. They live in deep water in dense colonies, but sometimes their larvae settle onto floating objects. These flotsam and jetsam get blown onto our beaches when the wind blows onshore (from the sea towards the land) for an extended period of time.

Honeycomb worms (Sabellaria spp.) are tiny worms that live around the low tide area of the beach. They build tubes, attached to the rock to live in and the structures we see on the beach are dense colonies made up of thousands of individual worms.
