To the west, a garden corner with sun loungers offers sweeping countryside and sea views towards Widemouth Bay. Guests also have access to shared grounds with a BBQ area.

Dating back to the 1830s, Mallard Cottage is a beautifully refurbished holiday home set on the bank of the River Neet, with a stunning balcony overlooking both the river and town. Just moments from the town centre, this charming and pet-friendly cottage offers the perfect blend of character, comfort, and location.
Sleeping up to 7 guests, the property features three light and spacious bedrooms, a master double with en-suite, a twin room, and a single room, along with a large sofa bed to accommodate two additional guests. Ideal for families or small groups, the layout provides both comfort and flexibility.
The cottage is ideally situated just a few minutes’ walk from Bude’s beach and picturesque canal, placing you right at the heart of everything this vibrant coastal town has to offer. To the rear, there is an access road and private parking for 2–3 vehicles, making your stay as convenient as it is enjoyable.
Outside, guests can relax on the large balcony with uninterrupted river views or enjoy outdoor dining on the spacious ground-floor patio, complete with barbecue and ample seating.
Inside, Mallard Cottage has been refurbished to a high standard, combining period charm with modern amenities. There are two stylish shower rooms (one en-suite), both featuring drench showers, stone tiling, large glass enclosures, contemporary fittings, and motion-sensor illuminated mirrors with shaver points. A separate WC is conveniently located just off the kitchen.
The well-equipped kitchen includes everything needed for a self-catering stay, including a coffee maker, oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, toaster, and a full range of cookware and utensils. A separate utility room provides an iron and ironing board. (Please note there is no washing machine, but a laundry service is available for a small additional charge.)
The cosy living room, complete with TV and DVD player, is perfect for unwinding after a day exploring the coast, while the dining area offers a welcoming space to enjoy meals together.
For your comfort, the cottage is cleaned weekly, with fresh linen and towels provided. Gas central heating and complimentary Wi-Fi are included at no extra cost.

The interiors in each property are all stylishly designed using soft hues which draw inspiration from the surrounding coastal landscape, creating the perfect space to relax and soak up the scenery.
The spacious open-plan sitting, dining and kitchen area means you will never miss out on a moment with friends and family. The log burner and modern, contemporary sofas make for a cosy place to spend winter days snuggled with loved ones. During the summer months, it’s all about the outside decking with woven cubed furniture, BBQs and glasses of ice-cold G&Ts – all you need to decide is who’s on drinks duty!

This delightful abode combines historic charm with modern comforts, offering guests a stylish retreat in the heart of Bude.
Ideally situated, Coxswain’s Cottage is just a leisurely stroll away from Summerleaze and Crooklets beaches, inviting you to explore the stunning South West Coast Path. Additionally, the vibrant array of shops, restaurants, and bars that Bude has to offer are conveniently located right on your doorstep. At the end of the road, you’ll find The Barrel independent pub, along with a bakery, delicatessen, and a variety of independent food and clothing shops.
Step inside Coxswain’s, and you’ll find a welcoming ‘home from home’, meticulously furnished cottage adorned with contemporary décor. The cottage features an eclectic mix of modern furnishings and artwork by local painters and photographers, harmonising with its original features such as Persian rugs, slate floors, and stripped pine flooring. With gas central heating, the cottage offers a cozy retreat throughout the year, remaining warm in winter thanks to its thick cob walls and cool in summer with its slate floors.
The well-equipped galley-style kitchen boasts modern amenities, including a Panasonic fridge-freezer, double Rangemaster dual fuel cooker, Bosch dishwasher, and microwave. Adjacent, a separate utility room houses a washing machine and dryer, perfect for storing beach gear and muddy boots after a day of adventure. The kitchen overlooks a spacious dining room, offering a delightful space to savour meals while enjoying garden views.
For relaxation, the sitting room features two plush double sofas, an ornamental fireplace, and entertainment amenities like a TV, DVD player, and radio. Upstairs, two generously sized bedrooms await, each thoughtfully appointed with luxury bedding, quality towels, and ample storage space. The master bedroom boasts a double bed with a luxury sprung natural-filled mattress, while the twin bedroom offers comfort with quality interior sprung single mattresses.
At Coxswain’s Cottage, we understand that pets are family too, which is why well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement. A supplement of £30 per week applies, and to maintain the cottage’s standards, dogs are kindly requested to refrain from furniture and upper floor access.
Outside, the large private enclosed garden beckons with a patio area ideal for al fresco dining and a BBQ, providing the perfect setting to unwind and soak up the sun. Year after year, our loyal guests return to Coxswain’s Cottage, describing it as a ‘home from home’ and awarding it 5-star ratings.

Enter the cottage and you’ll find three bedrooms leading off the slated hallway. There’s a delightful double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, a twin bedroom and a room with full-size bunk beds (‘I bags the top bunk’!) plus a large family bathroom.
Head up the wooden stairs and you’ll emerge into a wonderfully light and inviting space. With comfy sofas, colour-washed stone walls and exposed rafters, it’s real rustic chic. From the sitting room, which overlooks the main courtyard, you head through to the farmhouse kitchen with a large pine table – great for family gatherings.
You’ve even got your own private courtyard garden with seating and room for a BBQ. It’s the perfect spot on summer evenings for a glass of wine or a full-on grill-up.
